It may be snowing, but things are growing!

It’s April in Michigan, which means snow and cold temperatures! The seeds we started are cozy and warm in the greenhouse, and pushing their way up through the soil.

Raised beds are going in the garden this year, for corn, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and a variety of other vegetables.

We are happy to provide gardening space and experience to those interested. There is no charge for participating for the 2013 season.

2012 Season In Pictures

The 2012 Season was a great one in many ways…while we didn’t have quite the abundance we had envisioned, we learned a lot, and despite the hot and dry conditions, were able to donate produce to help feed some of our community members. Check out this first year in pictures below…and be sure to join us next year!

2012 Season

Fall is here and harvest time is upon us. Those of us who have worked in the Community Garden this summer would like to thank everyone who helped make our initial season a success. Though the weather was hot and dry, we were able to have enough produce to make donations to Hope’s Door and the Sr. Citzens’ Luncheon at the high school.

For donations of plants and seeds, products and supplies, money and support we would like to thank: Bartley Farms, City of Dowagiac, Creative Vinyl, Charlie Dohm, Dowagiac District Library, Foodie’s Restaurant, Hale’s Hardware, ?Bruce Springsteen, Town and Country Garden Club, Mark Van Til.

A special thanks should go to Dowagiac Union Schools for providing the land and water for the garden plot.  Also an extra thanks should go to David and Kathy Steele for coming to the rescue and plowing the ground to get us started.

We estimate that we had approximately 100 hours of time donated and harvested approximately 100 pounds of produce.
